This comforting dessert combines tender baked apples layered with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, topped with a simple biscuit dough that turns golden and crisp in the oven. A warm brown sugar sauce, thickened with flour and enriched with butter and lemon juice, is poured over the finished dish for a rich, tangy sweetness. This recipe reflects a traditional American approach to fruit desserts, akin to cobblers and crisps, but with a distinct biscuit topping and caramel-like sauce that makes it both rustic and indulgent. Perfect for autumn gatherings, Sunday suppers, or whenever you crave a cozy, old-fashioned treat.
