Ingredients
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup sugar

- 1 egg (large )
- 1 cup milk
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 2½ to 3 cups flour (enough to make a stiff batter)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Wet Mixture
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and lard until smooth.
- Add the molasses and egg; beat until well combined.
Step 2: Add Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves.
Step 3: Combine and Add Raisins
- Alternately add the dry mixture and milk into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the raisins.
Step 4: Bake the Cake
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Pour batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
