  • 4 tbsp butter (divided)
  • 1 cup onion (chopped )
  • 6 cups potatoes (thinly sliced , about 6 medium potatoes)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 cups milk (scalded)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or whipping cream, scalded)

Instructions
 

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare Dish

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 2-quart shallow baking dish.

Step 2: Sauté Onions

  • In a medium skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.

Step 3: Layer Ingredients

  • Layer sliced potatoes and sautéed onions in prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle each layer with salt and pepper. Dot with remaining butter.

Step 4: Make Cream Sauce

  • Sprinkle flour over top layer. Pour hot milk and heavy cream over the dish. Cover with foil.

Step 5: Bake

  • Bake covered for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and golden, and liquid is absorbed.
