Cinnamon-Walnut Coffee Cake with Crumb Topping

Coffee Cake
Coffee cake is a classic American baked good, traditionally served alongside a hot cup of coffee rather than containing coffee itself. Popularized in mid-20th-century home kitchens, this style of cake often features a tender crumb and a sweet, spiced topping. This particular version highlights a cinnamon-sugar walnut topping layered within and over a soft, buttery batter, creating a delightful contrast of textures. The method of layering the filling gives it a slightly sunken center, adding to its rustic charm. Known for its comforting flavors and simple preparation, coffee cake remains a favorite for breakfast gatherings, brunch tables, or an afternoon treat.
