Fruit Squares are a beloved American dessert rooted in traditional farmhouse baking, often shared during the holidays and family gatherings. These spiced, soft-baked bars filled with raisins or dates and optionally nuts offer a nostalgic taste of vintage midwestern kitchens. The inclusion of spices like cinnamon and cloves reflects early American influences, where such spices were treasured for both flavor and preservation. The jelly roll pan technique gives them a brownie-like appearance, perfect for sharing.
