  • 15 oz raisins
  • 1 tsp baking soda (heaping )
  • 3 cups flour (sifted)

Step 1: Boil Raisin Mixture

  • Combine sugar, boiling water, lard, cinnamon, salt, and raisins in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil and let boil for 5 minutes.

Step 2: Cool the Mixture

  • Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely.

Step 3: Mix Batter

  • Once cool, stir in baking soda.
  • Gradually add sifted flour and mix until well blended.

Step 4: Bake

  • Pour batter into a greased cake pan.
