  • ¼ cup hot water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg white (beaten)
  • 1 cake yeast (or 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast)
  • 1 tbsp lukewarm water (for yeast)
  • 3 cups flour (or more, as needed)

Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare Liquid Mixture

  • Combine hot water, salt, sugar, and shortening in a large bowl. Allow to cool to lukewarm.

Step 2: Activate Yeast

  • Dissolve the yeast in 1 tablespoon lukewarm water. Let sit until foamy.

Step 3: Mix Ingredients

  • Add the beaten egg white to the lukewarm mixture. Stir in the activated yeast.

Step 4: Add Flour

  • Gradually add 3 cups flour or more to form a soft dough. Mix well until dough is no longer sticky and is easy to handle.

Step 5: Store Dough

  • Brush the top of the dough with oil. Cover well and refrigerate. The dough will keep for 4 to 5 days.

Step 6: Shape and Rise

  • Take out as much dough as needed. Let rise in a warm place for about 2 hours or until doubled.

Step 7: Bake

  • Bake in a hot oven at 350°F to 400°F for about 30 minutes. Rolls may need more or less time based on size.
