Peach Cobbler
Peach cobbler is a beloved Southern dessert that combines juicy, spiced peaches with a soft, biscuit-like topping. This handwritten recipe keeps it simple, using a box of biscuit mix for convenience while still delivering homemade comfort. The combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice enhances the natural sweetness of the peaches, making each bite warm and fragrant. Perfect for bake sales or weeknight desserts, this cobbler captures the essence of traditional Southern kitchens while offering a shortcut that doesn’t sacrifice flavor. It’s a timeless treat often served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 pinch allspice
  • 1 box biscuit mix (prepared per package directions)
  • 1 can peaches (large can, drained, sliced or halved)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Sugar Mixture

  • In a bowl, mix together sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.

Step 2: Prepare Biscuit Mix

  • Follow directions on the biscuit mix box to prepare the dough.

Step 3: Assemble Cobbler

  • Place drained peaches in a baking dish. Sprinkle the spiced sugar mixture over the peaches.

Step 4: Add Biscuit Topping

  • Pat biscuit dough evenly over the top of the peaches.

Step 5: Bake

  • Place in oven and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 6: Serve

  • Allow to cool slightly and serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

Tips

  • Use canned peaches in light syrup for a less-sweet cobbler, or heavy syrup for a richer dessert.
  • Add a small amount of lemon zest to the peaches for brightness.
  • Substitute part of the sugar with brown sugar for a deeper caramel flavor.
  • Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for crunch.
  • Increase cinnamon or nutmeg if you prefer stronger warm spice flavor.
  • Drain peaches well to avoid a watery cobbler.
  • Bake in disposable pans for bake sales, as noted on the card.
  • Sprinkle extra cinnamon-sugar on top of the biscuit dough before baking for a crisp top.
