Hobo Bread
Hobo Bread is a Depression-era treat known for its simplicity and heartiness. Traditionally made using basic pantry staples and dried fruits, this moist quick bread originated during tough times when creative, affordable baking was essential. Often made without eggs or milk, it relies on soaked raisins, sugar, and flour to deliver a rich, comforting taste and dense texture. The long soaking process enhances the sweetness and softness of the dried fruit, making this bread perfect for breakfast, a snack with tea, or even dessert. Its rustic charm and old-fashioned flavor continue to make it a nostalgic favorite.
