Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups water (lukewarm )
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 packet dry yeast (Fleischmann’s)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 4 tbsp shortening
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions
 

Step 1: Activate Yeast

  • Stir 1 teaspoon of sugar into 2 cups of lukewarm water.
  • Add the dry yeast and let it stand for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Add Remaining Ingredients

  • Mix in 1 tablespoon salt, 4 tablespoons shortening, and 5 tablespoons sugar.

Step 3: Mix the Dough

  • Stir in 6 cups of flour gradually. Mix thoroughly until a dough forms.

Step 4: First Rise

  • Place the dough in a greased pan in a warm room.
  • Let it stand until doubled in size.

Step 5: Shape and Second Rise

  • Punch down the dough and shape it into buns or loaves.
  • Put into greased pans. Let rise until doubled again.

Step 6: Bake

  • Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.
  • Serve hot.
