Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pans

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

Step 2: Make the Cake Batter

  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in melted chocolate and vanilla extract.

Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking soda, and salt.

Step 4: Mix the Batter

  • Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture in three additions, alternating with water.
  • Begin and end with dry ingredients. Beat until smooth.

Step 5: Bake the Cake
